Public Rail Now is an organization dedicated to organizing for a rail network that works for everyone. In order to meet the needs of passengers, shippers, workers, and trackside communities, we believe this key industry should be owned and controlled by the public, not profit-hungry private corporations.
From the East Palestine derailment to the proposed mega-merger of Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern, the public has had a crash course in corporate railroading and its consequences. What would an alternative look like?
How can we push back against the railroad corporations and their political allies in D.C., and fight back against privatization efforts, job cuts, worsening freight and passenger service, and growing safety issues that endanger both railroad workers and the general public?
What would it look like to have democratic, public control over the railroads, with investment and expansion to create good union jobs, move more freight to the rails and off the roads, increase frequency and coverage of passenger service, and make the tracks safer and more reliable?
How could public ownership improve New England’s rail network? What issues do you have related to how passenger rail and freight rail is owned and operated? Join us for a lively discussion with Adam Barrington, the national organizer for Public Rail Now.
